Three Gifts to give that don't cost a penny..................................

I know everyone is wondering what in the world that you can give now adays that don't cost a penny - well, this time of the year is not the easiest for me as I do lot of thinking about family, friends and my life in general. Over the years as I think back, I realize that there have three things that have been given to me that are priceless and didn't cost anything.

The first was a smile - just think about how many times that just a simple smile from makes you feel better - remember how you felt to see your mom's smile, your dad's smile, your grandma's smile, your grandpa's smile, your best friend's smile, your teacher's smile, and the list goes on and on.
Most people don't realize how much that smile means not only for the giver but the receiver - think about when you had a bad day and some stranger smiled at you in the grocery store, how about when you just burned supper and your mate just smile, how about when your kids got in trouble and you just smiled, how about when you went to visit grandma at the nursing home and the smile you got when you walked in the door. Priceless don't you think -

The second was a hug - isn't it nice how a hug can just make all life problems seem tolerable - a hug can turn a bad day into a good one, can heal pain, can stop someone from crying, can make another person feel needed and know that someone cares. Just think about it - when someones sends you a hug comment on the computer - when you first see it - isn't that an awesome feeling - it is for me anyway. I guess over the years I have learned to appreciate hugs more now that my family is gone. Don't take your hugs for granted - they are also priceless and don't cost a penny.

OK, the third one is TIME - make time for YOU - that is sooooooooooo important - it could be a hot bath, a walk, listening to music - time that it's just YOU - escaping from the real world and I know as you are reading this you are thinking I don't have time. Well that is what I thought and as many of you know me I work 12-16 hours a day on this computer but I have found that making that time is necessary. Your brain and body needs to refresh itself - just like your computer needs rebooting when you have been on here for hours and strange things start happening - so you do your maintenance and reboot and all the strange things seem to clean up - well YOU need to do the same thing. Another thought on time, I called a friend of mine the other day in the nursing home and she thanked me for taking the time to think of her. I know we all have good intentions and want to do all the things but we have so much to do that we don't think we have the time. I have been trying to learn to manage my time better and have learned that if you do things NOW instead of putting it on a to do list for later - I get more done now than I ever did. Also, make time for your family and friends, make time to make memories, make time to visit a friend, make time to LISTEN to someone when they need it, and the list goes on and on. I know you are thinking that how in the world will I find the time - remember the time is there - you just have to learn to manage it. AND I'll always say it's not what happens that matters but how you handle it will make all the difference.

Now - gift giving just got easier for you I hope - give a smile to someone and make their day - give a hug to someone (even your animals love a hug) and learn to manage your time. One last thought - when you give that smile, give that hug, or give that time to someone - you have made that other person feel they are wanted, loved, and that for a moment someone thought about them and those TIMES ARE PRICELESS.
